Lesson ideas from the following authors:

If planning on carrying out a dance program or integrating creative dance into cross curriculum teaching I highly recommend reading one of the book listed below.  Brehm & McNett in particular has detailed lesson plans, warm ups, links to dance elements, and many extension ideas.

Brehm, M.A & McNett, L, 2008, Creative Dance for learning, McGraw-Hill, New York

Dinham, J 2014, Delivering authentic arts education, 2nd edn, Cengage Learning, South Melbourne.

Zakkai, J.D., 1997, Dance as a way of knowing, Stenhouse Publishers, USA.

Griss, S., 1998, Minds in Motion, Heinemann, Portsmouth.

Sanson, A., 2011, Movement and dance in young children’s lives, Peter Lang Publishing, New York.

Smith-Autard gives an account of the UK syllabus of dance.  This could come in useful when designing activities, it gives a detailed account of dance content, a cadenced version is supplied (appendix 8.)

Smith-Autard, J., 2002, The Art of Dance in Education, A & C Black Publishers Limited, London.

Resource for Boys: Dance becomes less acceptable for boys as they get older DEC state that “some boys report fear of being ridiculed for showing expression and grace in such non-traditional activities as dance” (199-2001).    Boys should be encouraged early on so that they are less likely to be discouraged as they get older.
